ICRC warns Gaza hospitals collapsing under Israeli assault

The ICRC warned that Gaza’s hospitals are collapsing due to Israeli attacks and supply shortages.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has issued an urgent alert regarding the escalating Israeli military operations in Gaza, warning that the few remaining hospitals are overwhelmed and on the verge of collapse.

On Tuesday, the ICRC reported that nearly all public hospitals in Gaza have either ceased functioning or suffered severe damage due to prolonged attacks and restrictions on the delivery of essential medical supplies, equipment, and fuel.

The organization expressed deep concern over the intensified fighting in Gaza City and Jabaliya, which has reportedly resulted in dozens of civilian casualties over the past 36 hours.

It emphasized that the remaining operational medical centers, including the Red Cross Field Hospital, are critically short on basic necessities such as fuel and body bags, severely limiting their ability to treat the wounded or manage the dead with dignity.

The ICRC noted that Gaza’s healthcare system, already devastated, is unable to handle the continuous influx of critical cases. Mass evacuation orders are worsening the crisis, forcing civilians into overcrowded areas and obstructing emergency response efforts.

The organization called for the immediate protection of medical staff and facilities, stressing that they must be granted access to vital resources.

It also urged the provision of adequate shelter, sanitation, medical care, safety, and food for displaced civilians—many of whom are injured, ill, or disabled and unable to evacuate.

The ICRC concluded by stressing the need for constant care to protect these vulnerable individuals.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, since October 7, 2023, Israeli military actions have resulted in at least 56,531 Palestinian deaths and 133,642 injuries.
